PITTSBURGH (August 29, 2025) – U. S. Steel announced today that for a fifth consecutive year, it has received a top score of 100 on the Disability Index® , the leading corporate benchmarking tool for disability inclusion policies and programs. The score has also earned the company its fifth consecutive recognition as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.” These distinctions confirm U. S. Steel’s unwavering commitment to protecting employees’ overall safety and well-being and creating pathways to meaningful careers for all talented people.
“We are honored by this recognition and what it says about the quality of our company and our people,” said Tara Carraro, SteelABILITY ERG Executive Sponsor, Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer at U. S. Steel. “This achievement is a mark of distinction for every SteelABILITY member and a credit to their ongoing efforts to drive increased awareness and understanding of disability-related issues.”
U. S. Steel credits several factors with driving their participation in the benchmark: relentless dedication to continuous learning and improvement; steady pursuit of business advantages, such as hiring, promoting, and leveraging the skills of top talent; and a robust network of employee resource groups (ERGs) determined to strengthen employee engagement, sustain a sense of community across their workplaces, and forge a culture in which all employees thrive. Beyond striving to meet the benchmarks outlined by the Disability Index, the company also complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
“This recognition is a tribute to our high-performing culture and the efforts of our SteelABILITY ERG, which provides ongoing support not only to those who identify as having a disability, but also to people who so selflessly provide care for others who do,” said Mona Dine, General Manager Human Resources and Chief Culture Officer.
Adds SteelABILITY Co-Chair Amber Sikes, “It’s a privilege to help lead our SteelABILITY ERG and to publicly congratulate them for helping U. S. Steel gain its fifth recognition as a ‘Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.”
“We are so pleased by this recognition,” said SteelABILITY ERG Co-Chair Joe Blandino. “It is a tribute to every member of our ERG and proof of our success at fostering empathy and understanding for the unique challenges faced by those with disabilities, as well as those who care for others with disabilities.”
The Disability Index measures performance across six key areas, including Culture & Leadership, Enterprise-Wide Access, Employment Practices, Community Engagement, Supplier Inclusion, and Responsible Procurement. Only companies that earn a top score are recognized as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.”
