SEAMLESS STANDARD AND LINE PIPE PRODUCTS

FEATURES

A53 covers seamless and welded, black and hot-dipped galvanized pipe for coiling, bending, flanging and other special purposes and is suitable for welding.

A106 covers seamless carbon steel pipe for high-temperature service, suitable for bending, flanging and similar forming operations. NPS 1-1/2 and under may be either hot finished or cold drawn. NPS 2 and larger shall be hot finished unless otherwise specified. Surface finish standards are outlined in the specification. Purchaser may specify NDE in lieu of hydrostatic test or neither. Unless otherwise specified, pipe is furnished with plain ends.

A252 covers steel pipe piles of cylindrical shape and applies to pipe piles in which the steel cylinder acts as a permanent load-carrying member or as a shell to form case-in-place concrete piles. Surface imperfections exceeding 25% of the nominal wall in depth are considered defects.

A333 covers seamless and welded carbon and alloy steel pipe intended for use at low temperatures and in other applications requiring notch toughness. Some product sizes may not be available under this specification because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on impact properties.

A523 covers seamless and welded steel pipe used as conduit for the installation of high-pressure pipe-type electrical cables. Suitable for welding and for forming operations involving flaring, belling and bending. Size Range: NPS 4-12

FEATURES

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) provides a Canadian equivalent of API 5L with some minor differences. This is applicable to seamless pipe for use in oil or gas pipeline systems. CSA has three toughness categories:

Category I – No charpy impact requirements

Category II – Charpy impact testing with shear (<=18”); additional drop weight tear test (>18”)

Category III – Charpy impact testing, energy only
