U. S. Steel Foundation Awards College Scholarships to Employees’ Children
June 10, 2025

PITTSBURGH, June 10, 2025 – United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced it has awarded 20 college scholarships to students across the country. All the recipients are children of U. S. Steel employees. The scholarships are funded by the United States Steel Foundation.

“Our employees are the heartbeat of U. S. Steel. By investing in their children’s futures, we are honoring the hard work and dedication of our workforce while fostering the next generation of innovators and leaders,” said Tara Carraro, U. S. Steel Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer. “These students have not only excelled in the classroom but have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to their communities – values we hold dear at U. S. Steel.”

Over the last 30 years, the U. S. Steel Scholarship program has awarded more than $4.6 million to nearly 550 children of both represented and non-represented employees across the company to support their higher education goals. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievements, leadership and participation in school and community activities. This is one of the many ways in which we demonstrate our deep appreciation for our workforce.

This year, the U. S. Steel Scholarship program awarded 20, $10,000 awards ($2,500 per year renewable for up to four years) to current high school seniors. All winners will be enrolled full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Two scholarships - the Maverick Award and Trailblazer Award - were established in 2023 in honor of two U. S. Steel retirees. The recipients receive a one-time $5,000 scholarship in addition to the U. S. Steel Scholarship for a total of $7,500. The Maverick Award is given in honor of Barry Melnkovic, retired Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, to a student dedicated to advancing opportunity and access either in study or extracurricular activities. The Trailblazer Award is given in honor of Christie Breves, retired Executive Vice President of Business Transformation, to a student pursuing a career in business or finance and who advocates for women.
