U. S. Steel produces a variety of coated steel sheet products. These products are manufactured to meet almost any customer ordered requirement with respect to corrosion resistance of the coating, strength level and/or formability requirements of the steel sheet, thickness, width, surface quality, and surface finish.

Our coated sheet products begin with a high-quality steel substrate. Our investment in state-of-the-art steel-making capabilities, ladle metallurgy, vacuum degassing, continuous casting and hot and cold rolling facilities results in steel sheet of excellent and consistent quality. This advanced technology, coupled with ultramodern coating facilities, gives U. S. Steel's customers the widest choice of superior coated steel sheet products.

Steel can be coated with several types of metallic coatings that provide very substantial improvements in corrosion performance whether the steel is used for cars, trucks, buildings, storage containers, mailboxes, or numerous other applications.

U. S. Steel's family of coated steel sheet products includes both hot-dipped and electrolytically-applied coatings. The protective coatings add superior corrosion resistance to the many other desirable properties of steel.

The various types of U. S. Steel coated steel products give our customer a choice of combinations to provide the amount of corrosion resistance required, strength, formability, paintability, surface appearance and other properties and characteristics to closely match the steel sheet to the application.

Steel ACRYLUME® steel sheet is a coated sheet product that increases the excellent corrosion resistance of GALVALUME® steel with a clear organic resin surface treatment applied over the GALVALUME® sheet coating. Essentially invisible, the treatment provides excellent characteristics to enhance the performance and applicability of GALVALUME® steel sheet.

ACRYLUME E PLUS™ steel sheet offers the environmentally conscious metal building construction industry a greener alternative by roll-coating a thin, uniform film of chromium-free emissive acrylic onto U. S. Steel's GALVALUME® coated sheet. GALVALUME® carbon steel, coated with aluminum-zinc alloy by a continuous hot-dip process, combines the excellent barrier corrosion protection of aluminum with the galvanic protection of zinc. ACRYLUME E PLUS™ steel sheet is designed to meet challenging solar reflectance and thermal emittance regulations, as well as offer superior resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

FEATURES

U. S. Steel ACRYZINC™ sheet is a coated sheet product with a clear organic resin surface treatment applied to a galvanized coating to increase corrosion resistance. The surface treatment is essentially invisible, providing excellent characteristics that enhance the performance and applicability of galvanized sheet.

Our ACRYZINC™ steel sheet provides excellent performance for virtually all applications of unpainted galvanized sheet, when: (1) forming requires the application of a light oil (severe draws require additional lubricant), (2) a high resistance to “white rust” is needed, and/or (3) darkening during the initial exposure of the finished product is objectionable. Examples of applications include roll-formed building panels and stamped appliance parts.

FEATURES

U. S. Steel GALVALUME® steel sheet is carbon steel sheet coated with aluminum-zinc alloy by a continuous hot-dip process. The nominal coating composition is 55% aluminum and 45% zinc. A small but important addition of silicon is included in the coating alloy. It is added not to enhance the corrosion performance, but to provide good coating adhesion to the steel substrate when the product is roll-formed, drawn, or bent during fabrication.
 

U. S. Steel GALVALUME® sheet is recommended when a high level of corrosion resistance is very important. Applications include pre-engineered metal buildings, industrial roofing and siding, air conditioning equipment, automotive under-body parts, building panels, electrical boxes, farm equipment and machinery, walk-in coolers, furnace parts, guide rails, heating equipment, home laundry appliances, outdoor signs, playground equipment, small appliances, vending machines, and wall panels.

U. S. Steel galvanized culvert sheet offers the combination of strength, corrosion resistance and formability needed for such uses as culverts, storm sewers, drain pipe and irrigation pipe, including spiral-formed, welded and lock-seamed corrugated pipe.

U. S. Steel Galvanized Culvert Sheet is a specially manufactured galvanized-steel sheet that provides:

U. S. Steel galvannealed sheet steel is carbon steel sheet coated with zinc on both sides by the continuous hot-dip process.  A thermal process produces an iron-zinc alloy coating that is optimized for painted applications.

The excellent corrosion resistance that results when the alloyed coating is painted is useful in many applications that demand long service life.

  • Excellent service when used on automobiles for both exposed and unexposed applications.
  • Specified for buses, trucks and other vehicles where long life is important.
  • Garage doors, highway signs and vending machines - applications that require good resistance to undercutting corrosion of the coating.

Galvannealed sheet is the best choice for a combination of good paintability, easy weldability and galvanic protection.

U. S. Steel hot-dip coated sheet is produced to meet the dimensional tolerances as shown in the following Tables (I-IV). If your application requires improved tolerances for performance reasons, please inquire. Thickness is measured at any point on the sheet no less than one inch from an edge.

FEATURES

U. S. Steel hot-dip galvanized sheet is carbon steel sheet coated with zinc on two sides by the continuous hot-dip process. The process results in a layer of zinc on each side of the steel sheet that adheres tightly to the steel through the formation of an iron-zinc alloy bonding layer. The iron-zinc layer is formed by a diffusion process while the heated steel strip is in contact with the molten zinc.

Hot-dip galvanized steel sheet is available from U. S. Steel in many options, including a comprehensive range of sheet widths and thicknesses, metallurgical designations (a range of strengths and formability levels), coating weights (thicknesses), surface finishes, and surface treatments for enhanced performance. The surface treatments can provide enhanced resistance to staining, improved formability, and/or improved paintability. Galvanized sheet can be used bare, prepainted or postpainted.

U. S. Steel galvanized sheet is produced for applications where corrosion resistance is an important service requirement. These applications include air conditioning equipment; automotive parts including body panels and structural members; building panels; display cases; electrical boxes; electronic equipment; farm buildings; equipment and machinery; garbage cans; guide rails; heating equipment; furnace parts and ductwork; home laundry appliances; lighting fixtures; mailboxes; outdoor signs, playground equipment; prefabricated buildings; refrigerators and freezers; roofing; toolboxes; vending machines; and wall panels. In all these applications, the galvanized coating is specified because it provides enhanced corrosion resistance, and thus, lengthens the useful life of the manufactured products.
