PITTSBURGH, March 6, 2018 – United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced that Richard L. Fruehauf has been named senior vice president of strategic planning and corporate development. Fruehauf previously held the position of vice president. The change was effective March 1. Fruehauf will continue to report to President and CEO David B. Burritt.
“Rich has been an important adviser on the company’s key financial and strategic initiatives,” said Burritt. “His insight and leadership have been crucial to our success. Rich is an integral member of the executive team and I am pleased to announce his advancement.”
Fruehauf will continue to oversee the following departments in his expanded role: Strategic Planning and Business Development, Innovation, Governmental Affairs, Environmental Affairs and Sustainability and Corporate Communications.
Fruehauf has held key leadership positions at U. S. Steel for nearly five years, first serving in the company’s legal department before transitioning to his most recent position in April 2018. Before joining U. S. Steel, he served as assistant general counsel at Westinghouse Electric Company and practiced law with Alco, Inc., Cohen & Grigsby, P.C. in Pittsburgh and Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. Earlier in his career, Fruehauf held national security positions with the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Arms Control & Disarmament Agency and the Department of the Navy.
Fruehauf, a native of Pittsburgh, holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
