A statement from President & CEO David B. Burritt on the Oct. 27 tragedy in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill Neighborhood:
While there are no words that can adequately describe the shock, pain, outrage and grief Saturday’s violence at the Tree of Life Synagogue has caused to so many, our hearts go out to all who are hurting in the aftermath of this tragic incident. United States Steel stands in solidarity with the victims, our friends and neighbors in Squirrel Hill and the people of Pittsburgh in this traumatic time.
We condemn violence, hatred or discrimination on any basis, and are united in the conviction that tolerance, compassion, diversity and inclusion are essential to our workplaces, our communities and our world.
Update: U. S. Steel has donated $25,000 to the Our Victims of Terror fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to honor and support those whose lives were lost and affected by the tragedy.
