Biography
Mike Williams was named Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, effective December 1, 2022. In this role, Mr. Williams has executive responsibility for U. S. Steel's corporate human resources, which includes HR business partner support, learning & development, talent management, DE&I, executive compensation, broad-based compensation, employee benefits, HR information systems and analytics, HR shared services, payroll and the employee support center (HR STEEL Center).
Mr. Williams joined U. S. Steel in 2013 as the Director, Pension Operations & Benefit Shared Services and was promoted to General Manager, Employee Benefits in 2014. In 2016, Mr. Williams assumed responsibility of Total Rewards as the Compensation and Benefits departments were merged under his leadership.
During his time at U. S. Steel, Mr. Williams has played a key leadership role in numerous large, organization-wide initiatives, including centralization of the company’s benefits and HR services; vendor contract negotiations; implementation of numerous incentive programs; and delivery of fixed-cost initiatives. Mr. Williams also plays a key role in the collective bargaining process with the USW.
Previously, Mr. Williams spent seven years at Alcoa (Pittsburgh, PA) where he advanced through positions of increasing responsibility before leading Alcoa’s People Services organization (Employee Benefits, Payroll and HR Shared Services). Prior to Alcoa, Mr. Williams led the implementation of numerous benefit recordkeeping systems at Hewitt Associates.
Mr. Williams earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from James Madison University. Mr. Williams also earned a Master of Science in E-Commerce Technologies from DePaul University and an Executive MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
