Biography

John M. Donovan served as Chief Executive Officer of AT&T Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T Inc., one of America’s largest multinational telecommunications firms, from 2017 until his retirement in 2019. At AT&T, he oversaw the company’s communications division, which included the wireless business, home broadband and landline service, and DirectTV. While at AT&T, he held various roles, including Chief Strategy Officer and Group President of AT&T Technology and Operations and Chief Technology Officer of AT&T Inc. from 2008 until 2012.

Before joining AT&T, Mr. Donovan was Executive Vice President of products, marketing, and operations at Verisign. He also served as Chairman and CEO of inCode Telecom Group Inc. and was a partner at Deloitte Consulting where he was the Americas industry practice director for telecom. Mr. Donovan has served on the board of directors of Palo Alto Networks, Inc. since 2012 and Lockheed Martin Corporation since 2021, and he was a member of the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee from 2019 to 2023.

Mr. Donovan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota
