ACRYLUME® Steel Sheet Data Sheet

Product Description

USS ACRYLUME® steel sheet is a zinc-aluminum coated steel sheet product that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of a GALVALUME® steel sheet coating with a clear organic polymer surface treatment that is applied over the GALVALUME® steel sheet coating. The surface treatment is essentially invisible but it provides excellent characteristics to enhance the performance and applicability of unpainted GALVALUME® steel sheet.

These enhancements include:

  • Good roll formability without the need for oils.
  • Excellent transit and field-storage performance without darkening or staining.
  • The practical eliminations of fingerprinting and footmarking during installation.
  • Long term surface brightness when exposed to the environment to help retain heat reflectivity.

Production & Availability

ACRYLUME® steel sheet is produced by applying the organic polymer film directly over the zinc-aluminum coating of the GALVALUME® steel sheet using roll-coating equipment. Following application of such liquid film treatment, the strip is dried in an oven to provide a clear, dry acrylic coating on the surface of the GALVALUME® steel sheet. The coating is clear and flexible, and is approximately 1.0 micrometer thick. Also, it provides lubricity that improves the roll-forming characteristics.

The use of roll-coating equipment to produce ACRYLUME® steel sheet provides a uniformity to the surface treatment that is not available by other less complex means of application. Our facilities at the Mon Valley and Fairfield Works have state-of-the-art equipment to provide complete coverage of both sheet surfaces with a clear, uniformly thick acrylic coating.

ACRYLUME® steel sheet is available in all the sizes and grades currently being produced at both the Mon Valley and Fairfield GALVALUME® steel sheet coating lines.

Performance

ACRYLUME® steel sheet has been processed on a number of different roll-forming lines with complete success. The roll-formed profiles included difficult standing-seam types. It is not necessary to add oils to either the strip or the forming rolls.

The performance with respect to the jobsite storage, hand marking and non-uniform darkening has been equally impressive.

ACRYLUME® steel sheet will exhibit the same spangle variations normal to GALVALUME® steel sheet. Roofing panels may therefore exhibit color variation.

Corrosion Performance

The results of accelerated corrosion tests show the superiority of ACRYLUME® steel sheets when compared with today's conventional chemically treated GALVALUME® steel sheets.

Wet-Stack Test

  • Designed to simulate storage of sheets in either a coil form or as a stacked bundle at the jobsite.
  • Test samples stacked tightly in a bundle. Wetted between the individual panels every 2 days with deionized water.
  • Tested at 100°F for 750 hours.

500 Light haze Light surface patches Heavy black patches
750 Light haze Uniform surface darkening Heavy, dark black patches

Water Immersion Test

  • Designed to simulate ponding of water on a low slope roof.
  • Samples immersed in deionized water.
  • Water temperature – 100°F
  • Test duration – 2,000 hours
