The U. S. Steel Scholarship at Brown is a need-based scholarship awarded annually to an entering first-year student in a business-related major. It may be renewed for the following three years. Sons or daughters of employees of U. S. Steel or its eligible subsidiaries will be given preference. If no sons or daughters apply, the scholarship may be awarded to another high-school senior who meets the above criteria. The Edgar B. Speer Scholarship at CMU is a merit/financial need/leadership scholarship (giving equal weight to each criteria) awarded annually to full time undergraduate students in business-related or engineering majors. In the event that two or more applicants have substantially equivalent qualifications based upon the applicable criteria, and one of the applicants is the son or daughter of a full-time employee of U. S. Steel or an eligible subsidiary, preference is given to the applicant who is the son or daughter of the employee. Students may receive the award during all four years of study at the university. Students should apply for the Edgar B. Speer Scholarship at the same time they apply for admission to CMU. In the letter, the student should state that he/she is the son/daughter of an employee of U. S. Steel, and request consideration for the Edgar B. Speer Scholarship. The letter should include a transcript and a description of the student's leadership abilities and should state the intended field of study.

The United States Steel Corporation Scholarship Fund at CMU is a merit/financial need/leadership scholarship (giving equal weight to each criteria) awarded to full time undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year, who are either (i) pursuing a dual major in business and engineering or (ii) pursuing a major in either business or engineering, with preference being given to dual major students. In the event that two or more applicants have substantially equivalent qualifications based upon the applicable criteria, and one of the applicants is the son or daughter of a full-time employee of U. S. Steel or an eligible subsidiary, preference is given to the applicant who is the son or daughter of the employee.

Students should apply for the United States Steel Corporation Scholarship Fund at the end of their sophomore or junior year. The student should enclose a letter addressed to Pam Calig, Assistant Director of Stewardship, Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3890. In the letter, the student should state that he/she is the son/daughter of an employee of U. S. Steel, and request consideration for the United States Steel Corporation Scholarship. The U. S. Steel Scholarship at Northwestern University is a $2,500 need-based scholarship awarded annually to an entering first-year student who has enrolled in a business-related program leading to a baccalaureate degree. The scholarship is not renewable. Preference is given to students who are sons and daughters of employees of U. S. Steel and its eligible subsidiaries and who are pursuing a business-related program at Northwestern. In years when there is no student of an employee of U. S. Steel or its subsidiaries who qualifies for the scholarship, Northwestern will award the scholarship to a Northwestern student who is pursuing a business-related program. The U. S. Steel Trustee Scholarship at Pennsylvania State University is a need-based scholarship awarded to undergraduate students who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), who demonstrate eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant and are enrolled or planning to enroll at the University as a full-time (12 or more credits per semester) student in Accounting Supply Chain Management or Information Systems in the Smeal College of Business; Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering; Information Sciences and Technology in the College of Information Sciences and Technology; or Materials Science Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. The scholarship is for one academic year, but may be renewed in subsequent years, provided the recipient continues to demonstrate Pell Grant financial need and acceptable academic progress and funds remain available. In the event that two or more eligible students have substantially equivalent qualifications, preference is given to sons and daughters of active, full-time employees of U. S. The U. S. Steel Scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh is awarded, based on academic achievement and financial need, to a full-time student entering his or her sophomore or junior year, if enrolled in a four year program, or fourth year, if enrolled in a five year program. Eligible majors include: (i) Accounting, Finance, Human Resources or Business Management ("Business Majors"); (ii) Computer, Information Sciences or Technology related subjects ("Computer Related Majors"); and (iii) Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering ("Engineering Majors"). . The student must have a cumulative grade point average at least equal to 3.0 if a Business Major and 2.75 if a Computer Related Major or an Engineering Major, and must have a demonstrated interest or desire to work in a manufacturing or industrial environment. The scholarship may be renewed one time provided that the student maintains satisfactory progress toward his or her degree and maintains a cumulative grade point average equal to the applicable minimum grade point average described above. In the event that two or more eligible students have substantially equivalent qualifications based upon academic achievement and financial need, special consideration is given to sons and daughters of active, full-time employees of U.
