For many years, U. S. Steel has been committed to being a major
supplier of quality steel sheet products. To demonstrate our
continuing commitment, we have invested substantial amounts of
money and effort during the past several years to upgrade our
sheet-producing facilities at all four sheet-producing plants.
These improvements include:

Improving our steelmaking facilities to make more specialized
steel chemistries,

Upgrading the Hot Strip Mill at Gary Works to provide enhanced
thickness control,

Upgrading the Cold Mills at both Mon Valley Works and Gary Works
to provide enhanced product uniformity,

Installing new hot-dip coating lines at both Fairfield Works and
at PRO-TEC to make high quality coated products for all industries,
and
-
Installing specialized equipment to apply surface coatings such
as roll-applied prephosphate films and clear, acrylic polymer
coatings over GALVALUME® Steel Sheet and galvanized
sheet for applications that require distinctly defined surface
properties.

Besides adding new and/or improved equipment, we have dedicated
ourselves to continuous process improvement through our APEX (All
People, All Process, All Product EXcellence) program. To improve
our process and product quality on a continuing basis, the APEX
system provides for continuous measurement of performance and
continuous feedback from customers and vendors. At each plant, APEX
has formal action plans that are continuously updated, to keep
day-to-day processes in control, to reduce product variability, and
to identify areas for quality improvement.

Our commitment to being a supplier of quality products includes
our efforts to provide you, our customer, with sufficient
information about our products so that, together, we can determine
the best steel for your applications.
The information contained in this site is organized into separate
sections for Hot Rolled, Cold Rolled and Coated Sheet Products. The
primary focus is product information, but at the same time, you
will see that we have included a considerable amount of processing
information to enable you to better understand how each of these
product types is manufactured.
