Hot Rolled Unprocessed (Formerly called Hot Roll
Band)
Hot rolled sheet
non-pickled non-temper rolled product is supplied as a coil
directly off the Hot Strip Mill with no additional
processing. This product is normally intended for sheet
applications where critical surface, edges or flatness are not
normally required. However, large volumes of
material 0.186" gauge and heavier is furnished to customers equipped
with cut-to-length lines who convert this product into plate.
Hot rolled sheet non-pickled non-temper rolled was formerly known as
a hot rolled band. Today, this product is normally referred
to as hot-rolled unprocessed because it is supplied as a coil
directly off the hot strip mill without further processing.
This product is typically manufactured to a specific nominal
thickness, but it may also be ordered to a minimum thickness.
In either case, this sheet product is sold on an actual weight
basis. Characteristics of an unprocessed hot rolled coil
include a mill edge (see schematic below), tightly adhering
scale on the sheet surface from the slab reheating operation, and
coil head and tail ends that exhibit thickness and flatness
variations compared to the coil body. Also, hot rolled non-temper
rolled sheet has an edge that is "as-rolled" off the hot strip mill
that is commonly designated as "mill edge". This edge is
generally rounded and does not conform to any particular contour. This product is intended for
applications where critical surface, edges or flatness are not
required.
