Terne Sheet and NI-TERNE Sheet
Typical Applications
U. S. Steel Terne Sheet and U. S. Steel NI-TERNE Sheet are chosen for applications requiring reliable long-term barrier corrosion resistance combined with good solderability and formability. The steel substrate provides high resistance to impact and puncture. U. S. Steel NI-TERNE sheet is often specified to achieve a higher level of corrosion protection than that achieved with terne sheet.

Terne coated sheet is used for: fuel tanks of cars, vans and trucks; miscellaneous parts associated with fuel tanks – baffles, brackets, filler caps and straps; oil-filter shells and air-cleaner bodies, as well as radiator parts. Terne coated sheet is also used for fuel tanks for the small engines of lawn mowers; power saws and outboard motorboats; TV, radio and other electronic chassis; capacitor cases, laboratory furniture, caskets and lighting fixtures.
