Properties of the Base Steel
U. S. Steel ACRYLUME® steel sheet is available in the same steel designations as GALVALUME® steel sheet.
Commercial Steel (CS)
Forming Steel (FS)
Drawing Steel (DS)
High Temperature Steel (HTS)
Structural Steel (SS)

ASTM References
These designations are defined in ASTM Specification A792. The following two tables provide details about the strength levels and formability attributes for these designations as presented in ASTM A792.

Typical Ranges of Mechanical Properties*
Yield Strength Elongation R N
Designation ksi MPa in 2 in, %  Value  Value
CS Type B 35/60 245/410 > / = 20 A A
FS 25/40 170/275 > / = 24 1.0/1.4 0.16/0.20
DS 20/35 140/240 > / = 30 1.3/1.7 0.18/0.22
HTS 30/65 205/450 > / = 15 A A
*The typical mechanical property values presented in this table are non-mandatory. They are intended to provide the purchaser with as much information as possible to make an informed decision on the steel to be specified. Values outside of these ranges may occur.

A - No typical properties have been established.

Structural Steel Mechanical Property Requirements
Grade Yield Strength

33 33 45 20
37 37 52 18

50 Class 2 50 . . . . . 12
80 A 80B 82 . . . . .
Where an ellipsis (. . . .) appears in the table, there is no requirement.

A - For sheet thickness of 0.028 and thinner, no tension test is required if the hardness result is Rockwell B 85 or greater.
B - As there is no discontinuous yield curve, the yield strength should be taken as the stress at 0.5% elongation under load or 0.2% offset.

Coating Thickness

The coating weight categories for the metallic coating are the same as those for the GALVALUME® steel sheet. The use of AZ55 or AZ50 should be decided on the same basis for regular GALVALUME® Steel sheet.

Surface Finish

The surface finish of ACRYLUME® steel sheet is basically unchanged from the typical appearance of the GALVALUME® coating since the acrylic film is clear. If anything, the appearance is somewhat satiny (less metallic gloss) especially when viewed at an oblique angle. The GALVALUME® steel sheet is typically not temper rolled prior to applying the acrylic film; thus, the normal small-spangle finish of GALVALUME® steel sheet is visible.

Surface Treatment

The acrylic coating on ACRYLUME® steel sheet does not require the use of any other surface treatment. The acrylic film offers the combined benefit of high resistance to storage staining and the lubricating effect of oil. The product is specifically not intended to be oiled when used for roofing, siding and decking. The absence of an oil provides improved worker safety.

ACRYLUME® steel sheet is only available with no additional surface treatments.

Corrosion Performance
The results of accelerated-corrosion tests show the superiority of ACRYLUME® steel sheet when compared with today's conventional chemically-treated GALVALUME®.

Wet Stack Test

Designed to simulate storage of sheets in either a coil form or as a stacked bundle at the jobsite
Test samples stacked tightly in a bundle. Wetted between the individual panels every 2 days with deionized water.
