Mill SWMA
The Central Mill SWMA encompasses approximately 839 acres and includes the steel producing operating area, 160/210-inch Plate Mill, former primary mills, and former bar and structural mill areas (merchant mills).
Historic and current operational use has been consistent across the SWMA, and future use is expected to remain the same. The eastern portion of the SWMA has always been used for steel production, initially with the open-hearth furnaces then using the BOP/Q-BOP. The remaining portion of the area has been used for rolling mill operations and, since the 1980s, scrap reclamation activities. Although the primary mills and bar and structural mills were decommissioned by the mid-1980s, the areas associated with those facilities are reserved for industrial use.
Current Status: "Investigation Complete" report being prepared for submittal to EPA.
