Technical Services and Quality Department  - Overview

Technical Services is primarily responsible for providing a variety of support services to all U. S. Steel personnel, specifically Computing, Information, Training, Video Conferencing, and Project & Operational Support, which includes Accounting, Safety Program Coordination, Electrical and Mechanical Project Equipment Specialists, and liaison with the U. S. Steel Research and Technology Center landlord.

The objectives of the Computing Services section are to efficiently operate and support all of the servers, personal computers, video conferencing equipment, and the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Other activities include providing support for data communications, graphics, database activities, operating system software, and other software needs that are general in nature.


The Knowledge Resource Center (KRC) provides information resources and services to users anywhere in the Company. Through the KRC, users can request technical and business information that is accessed through electronic searches of both external literature and the KRC’s internal files.

Training personnel coordinate all in-house training programs held at Research and supplement these with outside seminars and training courses.

The Project & Operational Support personnel coordinate contract arrangements for building construction, security, and the operation of the cafeteria, act as liaison with the owners of the Research and Technology Center and the janitorial contractor, and perform safety, instrumentation, electrical and mechanical project support functions.
