United States Steel Corporation’s Research and Technology Center is committed to developing cutting-edge products, creating innovative technical solutions and providing world-class support to the company’s integrated steelmaking operations worldwide. U. S. Steel is recognized as an industry leader in the production of high value-added steel sheet and tubular products that are highly sought after by manufacturers in the automotive, appliance, construction, container, and oil and gas industries. The work performed at the Research and Technology Center has been a key factor in our company’s success to date and is a foundation for our future.

Responsibilities at the Research and Technology Center are divided into three sections:

Emerging Technology
Working in close cooperation with our two other
research facilities – the Automotive Center in Troy, Mich., and USSE Research
in Košice, Slovakia – as well as with our customers, other steel companies,
and colleges and universities, the men and women of U. S. Steel’s Research and
Technology Center have earned reputations for excellence and innovation and
continue to focus on one primary objective: to ensure that steel remains the
material of choice in a variety of applications.
Located near Pittsburgh, Pa., on a portion of the site once occupied by the company’s historic Homestead Works, this state-of-the-art facility is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified. The building’s 120,000 square feet of space contains a wide array of advanced safety features, cutting-edge technology and energy efficiencies, three things closely linked to our corporate values. In addition to traditional laboratory and office space, other facilities and services include: a multidisciplinary technical library, full microscopy facilities, materials testing laboratories and several development facilities that simulate all aspects of steel production.
