John C. Price, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from Lafayette
College in Easton, Pa., in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in
metallurgical engineering. Following graduation, he joined
U. S. Steel as an operations trainee at the company’s
Fairless Works outside of Philadelphia, Pa., where he held
a number of increasingly responsible tin mill operation and
metallurgical positions.
In 1981, Mr. Price moved to Pittsburgh headquarters as
metallurgical engineer for tin products. Two years later,
he advanced to the position of general supervisor for tin
mill metallurgy at the Mon Valley Works’ Irvin Plant, where
he remained until 1984.

From the Pittsburgh area, Mr. Price relocated to Chicago to
serve as senior metallurgical engineer in Customer Technical
Services. In 1986, he moved to Gary Works, where he worked
as quality assurance manager, first for tin mill products then
sheet products. He returned to Mon Valley Works in 1988 as
manager of quality assurance.
In 1991, Mr. Price was named division manager of sheet products at
Mon Valley Works, and two years later transferred to headquarters
as district manager-customer technical services, East.
Mr. Price returned to Gary Works in 1994 where he served as manager
of quality assurance and manager of business services, respectively,
before being promoted to plant manager of finishing operations in
1996. He returned to Pittsburgh headquarters as general manager-tin
products in 1997.
In 2003, following the acquisition of National Steel, Mr. Price was
named general manager of the Midwest Plant and oversaw the successful
integration of that facility. In 2005, he advanced to general
manager-business planning. He was elected vice president-supply
chain in March 2008 with responsibility for the company’s business
planning, logistics services and processed products organizations.
He assumed his current post in April 2009, adding customer service
to his area of responsibility.
