A native of Canton, Ohio, Mr. Kutka began his U. S. Steel career in 1967 as a production worker at the company’s former Canton Roll & Machine Works.
After earning a degree in accounting from the University of Akron in 1970, Mr. Kutka joined the accounting staff at the Canton Works and later held accounting posts at the former Lorain-Cuyahoga Works, the Haverhill chemicals plant, Gary Works and several departments at Pittsburgh headquarters.

In a series of moves, Mr. Kutka became general manager of southern area purchasing in Houston, Texas; manager of business planning at the former Geneva-Pittsburg Works in Provo, Utah; and district sales manager for U. S. Steel in Detroit. Mr. Kutka returned to Pittsburgh headquarters in 1993 as general manager of human resources. He subsequently became general manager of business process reengineering and general manager of marketing & planning for sheet products before returning to the Detroit area in 1997 as general manager-automotive.
In 2001, Mr. Kutka returned to Pittsburgh as vice president-commercial and assumed the additional role of president-United States Steel International, Inc. in 2002. In 2005, he was appointed senior vice president-commercial, and in 2008, he was named senior vice president-sales & customer service. He assumed his current post in June 2008.
Mr. Kutka is a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute and serves as chairman of its Market Development Committee. He is also a member of the board of directors of Family House in Pittsburgh.
