Richard M. Efkeman

Richard M. Efkeman graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania
in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He earned a
master’s degree in business administration from Loyola College in
Baltimore, Md., in 1974.
Mr. Efkeman joined U. S. Steel in 1971 as a service correspondent in
the company’s Baltimore sales office. He progressed through a series
of positions in the company’s commercial organization before being
promoted in 1983 to manager in the marketing department, where he
spent eight years overseeing activities across a range of products.
In 1991, he was named director-mill marketing and business planning
for sheet products. He advanced to director-industry marketing for
sheet products in 1993.

In 1996, Mr. Efkeman was promoted to general manager of tin mill
products, where he oversaw all sales and marketing activities for U.
S. Steel’s tin products business. Three years later, he was named
director-raw materials planning, procurement, distribution and
sales. He advanced to general manager of marketing in 2003. He was
elected to his current position in March 2008 and is responsible for
all marketing activities across the company, including pricing,
market research and strategies, and trade issues.
Mr. Efkeman is an active member of the American Iron and Steel
Institute’s Market Development Committee and its Commercial Research
Committee.
