The tool set for the Marciniak’s Cup Drawing Test is
shown on the right (in exploded view and in
closed position). It consists of (from the bottom to the
top) a punch, a blank holder ring with bead, a spacer
sample, a tested sample and a die. High-accuracy strain
measurement technology has to be applied for major and
minor strain measurement. Usually, more than 150 samples
are needed to define experimental FLD. Samples can be
rectangular or cylindrical, as shown here. The
typical diameter of the punch is four inches.
