Limit Dome Height Test for FLD Determination

Limit Dome Height Test for FLD Determination

The tool set for a Limit Dome Height Test is shown on the right (in exploded view and in closed position). It consists of (from the bottom to the top) a punch, a blank holder ring with bead, a tested sample and the die. Just as it is in the next case, a high-accuracy strain measurement technology has to be applied for major and minor strain measurement. Usually, more than 150 samples are needed to define an experimental FLD. Samples can be of rectangular or cylindrical shape. Sometimes a test requires using samples of complex geometry. The typical diameter of the punch sphere is four inches.
